Sera Ing’s ‘April Rains’ Still on Display – A Haunting Tribute to Cambodia’s Past and Spirit

Sera Ing

There’s still time to experience April Rains, the powerful new exhibition by renowned French-Cambodian artist Sera Ing, currently on display at The Gallery at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra until June 30, 2025, from 8am to 10pm daily.

Born in Cambodia and shaped by exile following the Khmer Rouge regime, Sera’s art captures deep emotional resonance. April Rains explores themes of war, trauma, memory, and healing — a visual conversation between Cambodia’s scarred history and its enduring spirit. His evocative brushstrokes and intricate linework create immersive landscapes that feel both intimate and universal.

Now based in Paris, Sera has exhibited across Europe and Asia, but he remains best known in Cambodia for To Those Who Are No Longer Here — the moving tribute to the victims of S-21 at Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.

This new exhibition is a continuation of that conversation. As Charles-Henri Chevet, General Manager of Sofitel Phnom Penh, shared:
“We are honoured to collaborate with Sera Ing, a visionary artist whose work transcends borders and time.”

If you haven’t yet seen it, this is a rare chance to engage with art that not only remembers Cambodia’s past, but speaks deeply to its resilience and humanity.April Rains is open daily from 8am to 10pm at The Gallery, Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra until June 30, 2025.
