Pride Night at Courtyard by Marriott: Celebrating Inclusion and  Diversity in Phnom Penh

On Friday evening, the Courtyard by Marriott in Phnom Penh came alive with the colors of  inclusion and diversity during Pride Night, a vibrant event dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community  and its allies.

In a friendly and committed atmosphere, participants shared their experiences and hopes for the  future of a more open and inclusive society. The hotel, which aims to play an active role in Phnom  Penh’s social fabric, organized the evening to highlight the values of diversity, equality, and  inclusivity.

“Phnom Penh is no longer a distant, unknown city. It’s a modern capital where life is good, and  Pride Night reflects that,”explained one of the organizers, reminding everyone that Courtyard by  Marriott has been committed for several years to recognizing and supporting the LGBTQ+  community.

Powerful Testimonies and Inspiring Journeys

During a panel discussion, several local and international figures took the floor. One speaker, who  has lived in Phnom Penh for over 11 years, shared his personal story: “Phnom Penh has changed a  lot. Today, there is more and more visibility for LGBTQ+ people.”

Another speaker, an Australian expatriate, highlighted the significant progress made in LGBTQ+  rights in Cambodia and the importance of organizing such events: “Simply being able to celebrate  who we are, to express our identities without fear, is a victory. These initiatives help create a safer,  more welcoming space for everyone.”

Marriott, a Committed Advocate for Inclusion

Courtyard by Marriott’s commitment to diversity was praised multiple times. “The group actively  supports initiatives in favor of the LGBTQ+ community worldwide, and especially here in Phnom  Penh, where they help the city embrace openness and development,” noted one participant.

Even more unexpected topics were addressed, such as the Marriott group’s Mormon roots and its  evolution toward a global inclusion policy — a clear sign that mindsets are evolving, even within  large, traditional corporations.

A Message of Hope for the Future

The event also provided an opportunity to address ongoing challenges, such as mental health issues  and the lack of services for transgender individuals. Yet, the atmosphere remained decidedly  optimistic, with all attendees emphasizing the importance of continuing to raise their voices.

“My greatest hope is that one day, events like this will no longer need to exist, because being  yourself will no longer be a struggle,” concluded one speaker to resounding applause.

Pride Night at Courtyard by Marriott was more than just a party — it was a powerful statement for  equality, visibility, and the pride of being oneself, in a Cambodia undergoing profound  transformation.
