The Little Book of Huge Discounts: How One Small Idea is Building Big Community Impact in Cambodia

In Phnom Penh, few initiatives capture the city’s community spirit quite like The Little Book of Huge Discounts, a local project that’s become a holiday tradition, a business booster, and a heartfelt way to give back. At its core is founder Tracie Jennings, who, together with her late husband Glenn, turned a simple concept into something that now connects hundreds of businesses and thousands of customers each year.
Cambodia Lifestyle sat down with Tracie to talk about how it all began, the meaning behind the mission, and why community support in Cambodia still matters more than ever.
For those who haven’t heard of it yet, what exactly is The Little Book of Huge Discounts and how does it work?
Tracie:
“The Little Book of Huge Discounts is a fun, community-driven discount book packed with offers from Phnom Penh’s favorite restaurants, cafes, hotels, and local businesses. Each book is sold for just $10 and includes vouchers that give customers real savings, often 20%, 50%, or even buy-one-get-one-free deals.
It’s a simple idea: people get to explore new places and enjoy great value, while local businesses gain new customers. And best of all, every purchase helps support Bumblebee Cambodia and provides scholarships for members of our wider community.”

How did the idea first come about? Was there a moment that inspired you to create it?
Tracie:
“The idea actually began with my late husband, Glenn. I came from a small business background, so I understood firsthand how challenging it can be to grow something from the ground up. Glenn, on the other hand, had a big heart for community and was always looking for ways to help people connect and support one another.
He remembered how popular community discount books were back home, they brought people together while supporting local causes and small businesses. When we settled in Cambodia, we saw that same potential here. We wanted to create something that would encourage people to explore local businesses, strengthen community ties, and give back to the country that had welcomed us.
That’s how the first Little Book came to life, part love letter to Phnom Penh, part grassroots fundraiser.”
Each year the book supports Bumblebee Cambodia. Can you tell us more about this connection and the impact the funds have?
Tracie:
“Bumblebee Cambodia has always been at the heart of this project. The funds raised from the book help provide training, education, and stable employment for our Khmer team, many of whom come from difficult circumstances.
But the impact doesn’t stop there. Thanks to the book, we’ve also been able to offer scholarships to members of the wider community, helping young people continue their studies or vocational training. It’s something Glenn was especially passionate about, giving others the chance to build a brighter future through opportunity.”

What kind of response have you seen from businesses so far? Has it helped connect expats, locals, and independent brands?
Tracie:
“The response has been incredible! From family-run cafes to established hotels, so many businesses have been enthusiastic about joining. What’s really special is that it connects locals and expats in such a positive way.
Everyone loves discovering new places and supporting something meaningful. The Little Book has become a kind of bridge — helping people explore the city while supporting Cambodian entrepreneurs and family businesses.”

For businesses, what makes joining The Little Book such a good opportunity — especially heading into 2026?
Tracie:
“As small business owners ourselves, we truly understand the importance of community support. That’s why the Little Book was designed to be a win-win; it promotes your business, brings in new customers, and costs almost nothing to be part of.
For just $15, your offer reaches hundreds of people who actively want to visit local businesses. It’s not just advertising; it’s relationship-building. And every business that joins becomes part of a network that’s genuinely making a difference.”
How has the project grown since the first edition? Any success stories that stand out?
Tracie:
“It’s grown in such a heartwarming way. Each year, more businesses sign up, and more people look forward to buying the book as a Christmas gift.

I’ve heard from cafes that saw a wave of new customers after being featured, and from shop owners who said it was the most effective promotion they’d ever done. One restaurant told me they joined just to support the cause, but ended up gaining loyal regulars in the process.
Those stories remind me that Glenn’s idea still works, it’s practical kindness in action.”
Phnom Penh’s business scene has changed so much over the years. How do you see the city’s community spirit today?
Tracie:
“Phnom Penh has changed a lot, but its heart is the same — it’s still full of people who care deeply about one another. There’s a stronger sense now that when we support local, we’re supporting our neighbors.
Businesses have become more collaborative and creative, finding ways to thrive together rather than compete. That community spirit is what makes this city so special.”
How do you personally stay inspired to grow the initiative each year?
Tracie:
“Glenn is a big part of that inspiration. His belief in people — in what’s possible when you give others a chance — continues to guide me. Every year when I see our team growing in confidence, or when a new business joins the book and finds success, it reminds me why this project matters.
It’s joyful work because it connects kindness, opportunity, and community. And that’s what keeps me going.”
For readers who want to get involved, what’s the best way?
Tracie:
“If you’re a business, reach out — we’d love to include you in the 2026 edition! We’ll help you create an offer that works for your brand.
And if you’re a local or expat, simply buying the book makes a huge difference. You’ll discover great deals, explore Phnom Penh, and help fund education and community development projects. It’s such an easy and meaningful way to give back.”

After all these years in Cambodia, what keeps you connected to this country and its people?
Tracie:
“It’s the people, without a doubt. The warmth, the humor, and the generosity of spirit you find here is like nowhere else. Glenn and I always felt deeply connected to Cambodia — it became home.
The friendships, the community, and the sense of purpose we found here are things I’ll always cherish. Continuing this project feels like a way to honor that — and to keep giving back to a place and people who have given us so much.”
