Cambodia to face Guam in World Cup Qualifier

Cambodia to face face Guam in World Cup to decide which team will progress to the third round qualifiers for the 2023  Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup.

The draw as announced yesterday at the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumper, Malaysia. The other tie will see Indonesia take on Taiwan – who as known as Chinese Taipei by FIFA.

The Angkot Warriors, as the Cambodian national football team are nicknamed will be firm favorites against the tiny US colony of Guam, despite having a poorer World Cup qualifying record.

The Angkor Warriors did not have the best of World Cup qualifying campaigns having conceded 44 goals through qualifying, although there were in a group that included regional powerhouses Iran and Iraq, as well as Bahrain and Hong Kong.

The minnows of Guam on the other hand conceded 33 goals in a group that included China, Syria, the Philippines and fellow minnows in world football the Maldives

Cambodia vs Guam – head to head

Guam is a “country” of 170,000, that like other American colonies are not all that into “soccer”, while Cambodia has 16 million+ people and football is the national sport. Theoretically this should be a walkover, but the last times the teams met 7 years ago in Phnom Penh Guam beat the Angkor Warriors 2-0.

Cambodia to face Guam – fixtures and venue

Due to the current restrictions in the world because of the Covid-19 outbreak and the limited number of countries that are fully open to tourism a venue for the two legged affair has yet to be announced.

The first match is due to be held on September 7th, with the Second match on September 12th. The winner sill go though to the third round of qualifiers for the AFC Cup.

Where can I watch Cambodia vs Guam?

With a travel ban essentially in place and no venue announced, watching live will probably be bit hard. It should be screened live on Cambodian TV, which we will be sure to update on nearer the time.
