Van Vart: The Cambodian Artist Using Music, Makeup, and Motivation to Inspire Change

From humble beginnings to center stage

CLS sat down with Van Vart, one of Cambodia’s most dynamic young artists — a singer, model, MC, professional makeup artist, and founder of Van Brand Cosmetics. His journey is as inspiring as his sound, shaped by humble beginnings and a passion to represent Cambodian creativity on a global stage.

“I am a freelance Singer, Pro Makeup Artist, Model, MC, Content Creator and CEO of Van Brand Cosmetics,” he begins. “I’m basically from a very poor family and used to live in an organization when I was young where they provided shelter, food, and education for poor families, kids from the dump, or orphanages. Those struggles actually inspired me to do what I’m doing now — and I use my real name, Van Vart, as my stage name.”

Today, his musical style blends pop, pop-rock, R&B, and jazz influences. “As a singer, I would describe my sound as pop, pop rock, R&B, jazzy or ballads. I love all kinds of music,” he says with a smile.

A voice shaped by life and culture

Van’s work is deeply rooted in his connection to Cambodia. “Life and culture totally inspire so much of my music and what I do. I love to inspire and motivate people through my music or sound. I especially love to promote my culture on my platform too.”

His songs often merge English and Khmer lyrics, appealing to both local and international audiences — a reflection of Cambodia’s increasingly global artistic voice.

Cambodia’s music industry on the rise

Like many artists in the country, Van has witnessed Cambodia’s creative scene evolve quickly in recent years. “I totally see things changing fast since I started in this industry. My intention is to bring more energy and the next level to Cambodia’s music industry.

Find more Things To Do in Cambodia

“It might be difficult because some Cambodian audiences still find it new when artists experiment with different genres or vocal techniques. But I’m still working to make things better, to reach their hearts and get their support.”

Taking the stage — and representing Cambodia

Van’s performance history is impressive. “It’s totally amazing how I can do live performances in Cambodia,” he says. “I’ve done so many shows on television, competitions, gigs, and events, but the performance I’m most proud of is when I represented Cambodia in an international TV contest. That moment allowed me to show my talent and potential internationally and that’s always been my dream.”

Performing both Khmer and English songs, he’s learned to connect with audiences of every kind. “There are so many kinds of audiences in Cambodia. That’s why I’m always developing myself to be good at what I do. I can do my best and get good results in performances, especially since people can understand and feel my songs.”

Supporting Cambodia’s creative community

For Van, success means lifting others too. “I hope people will value more of the small artists or bands in Cambodia. They work so hard and even write their own songs. It’s important to give them more support,” he says, naming some of his favorites: “Keo Chandalin, Bustaka Band, and EE Siv.”

He adds that Cambodia’s unique atmosphere continues to shape its art scene. “Our location, culture, and the way people live with interesting vibes — it’s totally unique compared to other places in the region.”

Giving back through music

Despite his growing recognition, Van remains committed to giving back. “I’m now in the process of making more music, writing some songs, and preparing for gigs and events. I also have my own busking every weekend at Walk Street to raise donations for charity,” he shares proudly.

Where to find him
