Acoustic Battle: A New Stage for Cambodia’s Rising Stars
Phnom Penh’s live music scene just gained an exciting new platform with the launch of Acoustic Battle, a monthly competition designed to spotlight Cambodia’s emerging singing and songwriting talents. Kicking off last month, the series is already creating a buzz among music lovers who crave authentic performances and fresh voices.
More Than a Contest
Unlike standard karaoke-style competitions, Acoustic Battle challenges participants to do more than just sing. Contestants must also showcase their own songwriting skills, making the event a true test of creativity, originality, and stage presence. It’s a chance for aspiring musicians to share their stories, experiment with style, and connect with an engaged audience in an intimate setting.
How It Works
The format is straightforward but dynamic. Each month, a new group of performers takes the stage, with the winner chosen through a 50/50 split between audience votes and a panel of three experienced judges. This balance keeps the competition both professional and community-driven, ensuring that crowd favorites and technically skilled performers all have a fair shot.
The monthly champions aren’t just walking away with bragging rights. They’ll advance to the Grand Championship in January 2026, where they’ll battle it out for bigger prizes and the coveted title of Acoustic Battle Grand Champion.
A Community Vibe at River&Co
The competition is hosted at a different venue each month. This month’s edition will take place at River&Co., a popular riverside spot known for its relaxed atmosphere, creative cocktails, and support of local talent. Its intimate stage and scenic backdrop make it the perfect setting for raw, unplugged performances that highlight the emotional core of each song.
