What is Shade240? A Bold Boutique That’s Redefining Fashion in Cambodia

We were delighted to catch up with both Ryan Drewe Taylor and Joshua Weaver, the visionary duo behind Shade240—a boutique that’s making waves in Cambodia’s fashion and design scene with bold aesthetics, handcrafted detail, and a serious commitment to slow fashion. From street style to skincare, their creative energy flows through every part of this dynamic business.

A Boutique Born from Passion and Colour

“Ryan Drewe Taylor and I, Joshua Weaver, started Shade with a passion for embracing color, pattern, and making bold statements through attire,” explains Joshua. “Ryan operates Drewe Taylor Designs, our in-house fashion brand, and I operate Broadhead Boutique and Broadhead Botanicals, our in-house accessories and skincare brands.”

Originally launching with fashion and accessories, the duo later introduced skincare to the lineup. “The skincare came later and—true to our focus—is an elevated, handcrafted, and locally-produced product,” says Joshua.

A Home for Individuality

What makes Shade240 stand out in Cambodia’s retail scene is its ethos. “Shade is a slow-fashion, boutique shopping experience,” Joshua says. “The clothing and accessories available in the Kingdom are often repetitive, so we pride ourselves on presenting handmade, unique fashion and accessories that one couldn’t find elsewhere in Cambodia or the fashion world at large.”

And it’s not just retail—it’s runway. “Drewe Taylor Designs is one of the original participants of Phnom Penh Designers Week. Through this exposure, Ryan has brought his fashion and day wear from the runway to the rails at Shade240,” he adds. “Drewe Taylor has since been featured in editorials and fashion events on both the domestic and international runways.”

From Five Years to Forever

As they approach their fifth anniversary, the vision only grows bolder. “We continuously strive to push the envelope and our refusal to fall in line with the norm has brought us a lot of attention and a fiercely loyal following.”

Yet, it’s still a true passion project. “Ryan and I both have full-time jobs outside of Shade, so it’s truly a labor of love. We live for making beautiful things. It’s that simple,” Joshua shares. “And it’s only possible because of our incredible team. We’re proud to empower a team of talented women as seamstresses and our sales assistants.”

Why You Should Visit Shade240

If you’re someone looking for something elevated and original, this is your place. “We typically don’t make more than four of anything,” Joshua says. “So if you’re tired of the same collection of elephant pants available all over town and want to stand out, come take a look at Shade240. Our fashion and accessories are handcrafted statement pieces, and our skincare line is locally handcrafted with the finest, organic ingredients.”

Ethical, Local, and Loved by All

Shade240 isn’t just about style—it’s about sustainability. “With our slow-fashion initiative, there’s zero landfill waste which directly contrasts fast fashion,” Joshua says. “And our staff has employment security and benefits that allow them to have a more balanced life than the average garment maker in Cambodia.”

More than that, the brand has become a space where locals, expats, and tourists come together. “We love being a shopping destination that is loved by Khmer, expats, and international tourists alike. Watching someone walk in and be overwhelmed with the bursts of color and styles makes our day,” he adds. “Visitors arrive not knowing what they’re looking for and leave with an entire new collection of fashion and accessories.”
